WORLDSKILLS CALGARY 2009 – AN INSIDE VIEW

In Events, public relations on October 22, 2009 at 8:25 pm

CPRS Calgary Chapter (CPRS Calgary) is hosting a luncheon presentation called “WorldSkills Calgary 2009: 4 years to plan; 1 week to happen” featuring Sue McMaster, Director of Marketing, Communications and Media Relations for WorldSkills Calgary 2009 and Laurie Stretch, Director for NATIONAL Public Relations on Wednesday October 28, 2009 at TransCanada Tower.

WorldSkills Calgary 2009 brought together 900 skill, trades and technology competitors under the age of 23; required 3,000 volunteers and 3,500 delegates and experts to oversee; attended by over 150,000 students, educators and the general public and contributed approximately $82 million to the City of Calgary. So, what did it really take to pull this off? What were the big lessons and what do they know now that they wish they had known then?

According to Sue McMaster, “WorldSkills Calgary 2009 was a massive undertaking which required the cooperation of stakeholders on many levels. Our ultimate success was a tribute to thorough planning, perseverance, team effort, calling in the experts and Mother Nature herself.”
